I was "chummy" with Janis our senior year in HS and then after she and I both married and had children. Her son Sean and my son Mike were almost the same ages and we lived rather close together - we were young Mom's and would arrange Play Times for the boys as often as possible. Over the years, we lost touch - but every, EVERY single time that I saw her, she nd I started up just like we had not ever left a conversation. Truly one of a kind- the world was a better place because she was here!

No matter how I try, I can't seem to put into words what Janis meant to me---we were more like sisters than friends. I was honored to be allowed to help care for her when she came home from the hospital, and it was an added gift to be there with her when she took her final breath. There's nothing else I can say, except that I miss her like crazy...

Losing Janis has been one of the hardest things in my life that I have tried to come to terms with; she took a part of me when she left this world and I miss her desperately. Many times I started to pick up the phone to call her and had to stop myself. I cherish all of the memories of our friendship and hold them close to my heart. I love you and miss you Janis, I always will. Shalom.

I'll always be grateful for the 30th reunion, just a few short months before we discovered she was ill. We just had a blast that weekend!

I'll never forget the service for Janis. Her rabbi said many beautiful, meaningful things about her but one thing stood out: he talked about what it said about Janis that so many of her friends stood with her until the end.

You could make the argument that she would have done the same for us - and she would have - but the strength of Janis's long-term friendships reflects on the loving person she was.

I too got to know Janis after graduation. She was a very sweet person and cared about everyone. She always had a smile on her face and never was too busy to stop and talk. I saw her shortly before she passed away and it truly came as a shock - I miss seeing her and spending time with her . A rose to you Janis - you are truly missed . Carolyn Hancock Finley

I moved to Rock Hill in the first grade, across the street from Rosemary Haddon on Hawthorne Lane.  I must have met Janis shortly thereafter.  We moved to Kallaramo Road that summer and I stated Ebinport in the 2nd grade.  Kept up with Rosemary through our parents friendship, and therefore Janis, too.  Last time I saw her we were on some 30th reunion committee together (and maybe at the Elks Club).  I was shocked to hear of her death so soon afterwards.  I think the older we get the more old friendships mean.  Janis was one of the sweetest people ever!!

Hard to believe it's been ten years since the last reunion.  I remember sitting around Betty's kitchen, talking and laughing into the wee hours.

Missed you this weekend, Janis.

Happy Birthday, Janis :)
I woke up this morning thinking about you and all the times we called each other at a few minutes past midnight on our birthdays to wish each other a Happy Birthday; especially remembering your 40th birthday when Sean helped me surprise you with a Singing Birthday Telegram at your store. I can still see you smiling in the pictures he sent....
