Mary Alice was a very dear friend of mine and she is greatly missed by many. She died in 1993 after a battle with cancer. Below is part of her obituary from The Herald:

Mrs. Mary Alice Greenwood Neely, 41, died Saturday, October 9, 1993 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and was employed by the Catawba Mental Health Center. She served in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lesslie Volunteer Fire Department and the Rock Hill Chorale Booster Club. Surviving are her husband, Steve Neely and her daughter, Jamie Neely. She had three brothers, Charlie, Robert and Jess Greenwood; and one sister, Martha Ann Welborn.

Doris,
So glad you wrote the remembrance for Mary Alice. I didn't realize it had been so long - 1993. We lost touch for awhile, but when I heard she had cancer, we re-connected. Mary Alice was a dear friend. The last time I visited her in the hospital, Jamie called, I could see the love and closeness they shared. I have many fond memories of Mary Alice. Sweet girl.

Mary Alice and I grew up in the same neighborhood. She came to my house often and I still have a picture of both of us right before we marched in the Christmas parade in our "twirling outfits." Yes, we were baton twilers! I still remember our outfits - they were white with sequins - red - I believe - I thought they were the coolest thing ever!

Mary Alice and I met years after graduating from high school. Our children stayed in the same private home for childcare. We became great friends, as well as our daughters becoming great friends. She attended the first RHHS Class Reunion with me because Steve had to work that night. Mary Alice was a great person, and she is greatly missed.

Mary Alice and I were friends from junior high through high school - it is so sad to see such a great person gone - sometimes we wonder why - I have learned over and over life is so short - be there for those we care about and always cheerish the times together - a rose for you
