In Memory

Beth Waldrop (Nance)

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Elizabeth “Beth” Waldrop Nance, 60, of Columbia, S.C., will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, with Pastors Steve McCormick and Charles Seastrunk officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Beth passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Born on Oct. 31, 1952, in Rock Hill, S.C., Beth was the daughter of the late Robert Lindsay and Elsie Hammer Waldrop. Beth graduated from Rock Hill High School and she earned her degree from Erskine College in 1973. Beth was a gifted educator who began her teaching career at Williams Memorial Elementary School in St. George, S.C. After marrying her husband, Edward B. “Ned” Nance, in 1975, Beth moved to Columbia and taught at Sandhills Academy. She then taught at St. Michaels All Angels Episcopal Preschool, where she later became director of the program. For the past 18 years, Beth taught middle school math and algebra at Timmerman School. Beth's love and dedication to her career endures forever in the minds and hearts of the countless students she guided and touched.

Beth was a loving and devoted wife, mother and sister, and a loyal and caring friend to her extended family at Timmerman School. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Lindsay Nance Sorrell (Brian); son, Edward Waldrop “Ted” Nance; and grandson, Joseph Porter Sorrell, all of Columbia. Beth is also survived by her brother, Robert Lindsay Waldrop Jr., of Rock Hill; and her in-laws, Bob and Judy Nance, Tim and Rosemary Nance, Kit and Faye Nance and Pat and Carolyn Nance. Beth was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Waldrop.

Beth's family expresses their deepest gratitude to the many friends and caregivers who have so generously shared their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Timmerman School Building Fund or to the Dreher High School Foundation.

Dearest friend, I don't know why I didn't write this three years ago. To be honest, I thought I did (really bad senior moments.). Beth was a wonderful friend. I have so many memories of good times with her and her family.   Rest in peace, my friend. Much love!!
